Monday Mixtapes: Similarobjects

There is more beyond the music we hear in the radio, the tunes featured on television, and the endless Youtube links we click every day. Apart from these sources are music we have yet to discover and understand as it invades our taste for sound.

The beatmaking scene in the Philippines is one of those undiscovered treasures listeners have yet to explore. Ambigous yet persuasive when it comes to contributing good music, Philippine beatmakers are fine sources of inspiration for those who create music today and in the future to come.

One of them is Jorge Wieneke also known as Similarobjects. A 24 year old beatmaker, musician, and experimental artist, Similarobjects has released several eps and albums via online and physical copy as he also plays gigs in various Metro Manila venues. Signed under independent label Number Line Records, Similarobjects is also part of BuwanBuwan, a collective that serves as a platform and playground for Filipino beatmakers and electronic musicians.

With his consistent contribution to the local electronic music scene, Similarobjects has not failed to expand his brand of sound to people everywhere. That is why in this version of Monday Mixtapes, TeamManila invited this young lad to share ten local tracks he has been enjoying at present time. Here’s what he has to say about it: “I always believe that there’s a lot to uncover when it comes to our local music scene as I truly believe that there is a force pushing all these artists towards a blooming or an evolution of sorts. With that said, I’d like to present my top ten list of local artists I’ve been digging on lately. These songs do a pretty good job at leaving me in awe with the current state of local music. Pinoys infinitely on the rise.”
