MANILA TAKES PART ON CREATIVE CITIES

250 designers, musicians, entrepreneurs, and other multimedia artists from 10 Asia-Pacific cities gather for Creative Cities, a “project inspired by how the ‘creative city’ defines the aspirations of cities around the world today.” Artists from Kaohsiung, Bangkok, Beijing, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Seoul, Singapore, Sydney, Tokyo, and Manila worked on various creations in which the people, projects, products, and places from their metropolis are highlighted.

TeamManila along with Filipino creatives Amina Aranaz-Alunan of Aranaz, Aram Behesthi of Graphika Manila, Dan Matutina of Plus63 Design Co, and Ito Kish of K I S H were approached to act as “City Curators” wherein they introduce their city by showcasing its significant characteristics through art.

On the other hand, 21 “Creators” like 98B COLLABoratory, Carlos Celdran, Leeroy New, Electrolychee, and Inksurge (just to name a few) were shortlisted for the exhibit as their works and thoughts play a noteworthy part in shaping Manila’s creative scene.

Works from these artists plus hundreds more can be viewed at the Pier-2 Art Center in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan until January 12, 2014. Curated by Jackson Tan of BLACK and edited by Justin Zhuang of In Plain Words, Creative Cities is a visual tour of the 10 Asia-Pacific cities as they translate the creative connections within the region — a taste of how cultural backgrounds gradually transform through time as it educates not only its neighboring countries but also its locals.
