A Night of Sofar at the Suez and Zapote
The white walls, casual display of art, and the calming vibe of the Suez and Zapote Gallery served as setting to the 9th Sofar Sounds show last February 21.
A movement that brings music lovers together by means of putting a secret show, Sofar Sounds was founded in London and was brought to the Philippines around two years ago. Intimate and by invite only, the community brings the finest local artists in one show, stripped and closer to their audience.
Couch in center and carpets on the floor, the previous Sofar was attended by close to 50 people anxious of the gig line-up. The show was opened by Aly Cabral, vocalist and guitarist of folk-rock trio Ourselves the Elves, who played several originals blended in her smoothing vocals. Reese Lansangan from girl-duo Reese and Vica came next as she sang with a ukulele/acoustic guitar and some help from April Hernandez (The Sun Manager) and Josh Villena (Autotelic). The evening closed with music from Bubble Based Boy dapper in long sleeves and an impressive ensemble of guitars and wind instruments.
The show may have ended relatively early compared to the usual bar gigs but the experience is something to remember for a long time.
