Pupil: Superior to Zilch
Loud and in-your-face, there’s definitely nothing empty about Pupil’s fourth record Zilch. Launched last March 6 in B-Side Makati, Zilch is a record born from many firsts – from welcoming a new guitarist, to recording the album DIY and releasing it under a new label, Zilch is a highly intriguing release from the band.
Composed of ten tracks and less than an hour long, the record is absolute rock and roll that’s either polite or aggressive. Its second single “Out of Control” easily sums up the band’s modern rock sound distinct of raw guitar riffs and floor-pounding drum tracks from Jerome Velasco and Wendell Garcia respectively. The songwriting is also something to praise as Ely Buendia sings about apparitions and apocalypses that blends well with Dok Sergio’s melodic bass lines.
Other tracks from the record like “Why” and “Stem” gives off unruffled sections that blow up your speakers at the mid until end – a testament to Pupil’s strength when it comes to experimenting, but not deviating, from their ultimate sound. Definitely, Pupil has upped the ante with this brand new album.
Zilch can be purchased at Pupil’s gigs and soon on iTunes. For more updates, check out the band’s Facebook page here.
