TeamManila Hitlist: See Baguio this Summer

The sun is getting higher and the temperature warmer. We can already feel summer and we can’t help but plan our getaways this early.

Some may opt for the beach while others go hop out of the country. While for some, an adventure in the mountains seems like the perfect deal. Where else but in the summer capital of the country, Baguio.

TM-HIT-LIST Baguio

A seven to eight hour trip from Manila, Baguio is the perfect place to breathe fresh air and appreciate the mountains of Luzon. It’s a city surrounding the Cordilleras that’s booming with art, great coffee, and cheap shopping. And that’s why in this version of TeamManila Hitlist, we’ve prepared a short but apt rundown of the things you have to do while you’re in Baguio City. It’s the perfect Hitlist for the long weekend coming! Check them out below.

1. Pick some strawberries
No Baguio getaway is complete without strawberries. For a firsthand experience, head to La Trinidad’s Strawberry Farm and pick those berries away. And don’t you forget to have a cup of the infamous strawberry taho, found almost everywhere, in the morning.

2. Visit the Bencab Museum
Owned by National Artist Ben Cabrera, the Bencab Museum houses the finest contemporary art from nearby regions and Manila. It also displays the national artist’s works in a three-story building surrounded by a pond at the back. Aside from the art, the museum is also home to Cafe Sabel which is known for its fine Ifugao coffee.

3. Ride the roller blades
After lurking around Burnham Park, take a trip back to the 90s and experience the circular rollerblading rink just along the park’s stretch. Located in Quirante’s Fun Rides & Recreation, the mini amusement park also offers scooter rentals, table tennis, and a bunch of kiddie rides at a low price.

4. Experience a breathtaking view
See the province of Benguet in a panoramic landscape while you’re at the Mines View Park. It’s best to visit during the morning or early afternoon since fog builds up easily at the view deck. Bring a snack and sit at the benches (for free!) while you’re there.

5. Spend some market time
Baguio’s market is far from ordinary with all the fresh and native produce it carries. Vegetables are sold at a bargain and one-of-a-kind souvenirs are haggled at almost every stall. Purchase authentic Cordillera rice wine or woven Ifugao blankets then take an inception-like ukay-ukay trip after.
