TeamManila Hitlist: Paboritong Palamig
The season’s starting to get cooler but occasional heat waves still set in. We just can’t deny the country’s tropical weather where sun and rain plays together.
But that’s all right as long as we have an umbrella and a delicious palamig in hand – something to cool us down from the heat or keep us steady in the wind.
That’s why in this TeamManila Hitlist, we list eight Filipino palamigs we all love to enjoy. Come and savour the season with our Hitlist below.
1. Sorbetes – Cheap but definitely tasty, sorbetes or dirty ice cream for some is best enjoyed in that sweet brown apa. Have it in local flavors like cheese, mangga, or avocado.
2. Halo-Halo – A classic palamig that peaks during summer, we just can’t deny our love for halo-halo. Who wouldn’t want shaved ice, milk, ube, leche flan, and all that halo in a cup? Sarap.
3. Ice Candy – Every kid (or kid at heart) has enjoyed ice candy while playing on the streets. Priced at two pesos the most, this homemade goodness continues to sell every season.
4. Saba Con Yelo – Our local banana just got an upgrade in this dessert. Shaved ice, milk, chewy sago, and slices of saba make the perfect palamig.
5. Mais Con Yelo – Like saging na saba but with corn instead of banana, mais con yelo is what’s best for those who want texture in their palamig.
6. Iskrambol – Who would ever forget iskrambol? Pink with powdered milk plus chocolate syrup on top, this palamig is like our local slushie, sweet and sold in the streets.
7. Buko Juice – The heat tends to get us dehydrated and the yummy alternative to water is buko juice. Grab a cup worth five or ten for the ultimate palamig fix.
8. Sago’t Gulaman – Originally from the Chinese, sago’t gulaman has become a local favorite as well; bits of chewy sago and gulaman swimming in arnibal water has been a refreshing treat for many.
So don’t fret if you need to head out today. Grab your paboritong palamig in this almost end of summer!
