TM Hit List: Local Spots to See 2015
There are 7,107 islands in the Philippines and nobody has seen it all. With so many wonderful places to visit in our country, where should your next destination be? Would you like to dive underwater, hike a mountain high, or just relax at the beach? Whatever floats your boat, we summed up five amazing local spots you should this year. Grab your cameras and pack your bags (even this early this year) for a Philippine trip you should not miss!
Basco, Batanes
Located at the northernmost part of Luzon, Batanes is the smallest province in the country that boasts of majestic landscapes and a breathtaking view of the Pacific Ocean. When you’re there, don’t forget to visit the Basco Lighthouse at Naidi Hills and the Dipnaysupuan Japanese Tunnel for some history. There are also lots of white beaches nearby that you can swim in for free. If you’re in for some sweat, rent a bike for 300/day and get to see the sights closer.

Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte
To reach Pagudpud, you’ll need to hop in an 11-hour bus ride that’s butt-numbing and tiring at the same time. But I bet you that it’s all worth it once you’ve reached your northern destination. A small coastal town in Ilocos Norte, Pagudpud has the most pristine white sand beaches that you can swim and surf at the same time. Aside from this, you should also check-out the La Paz Sand Dunes for a 4×4 ride or the Bangui Windmills for some picture taking.

Sagada, Mountain Province
Sagada has always been famous for its cold temperature and hanging coffins but there’s definitely more to experience than that. Explore caves, swim in waterfalls, and watch the sunset disappear upon clouds when you reach this 12-hour destination (a six-hour bus to Baguio, then another six hours to Mountain Province.) Lodges at Sagada are also very cheap (300/night) so you’ll have more cash to eat good yogurt.

Calaguas, Camarines Norte
Turquoise water in powdery white sand is what you’ll live for once you reach Calaguas. Totally intact with nature (there’s no electricity at night and mobile signal is nearly impossible), this small island will teach you how to tent and rough it like a real survivor. Take a rewarding dip at the beach or take a nap at a hammock for the most relaxing time ever.

Apo Island, Negros Oriental
Swim with giant sea turtles while you’re at Apo Island. Known for its world-class marine sanctuaries, this tiny volcanic island located in Negros Oriental will definitely bring out the mermaid (or merman) in you. Aside from these, the unique rock formations and white beaches will make you forget Manila’s stress while you enjoy a drink in hand.
