TeamManila Tips: Lomography Tricks
No smartphone or filter can compare to the authenticity film photography has. The excitement and fun that a film camera can give will always be wanted by many – like Lomography and its fantastic plastic experience that continues to draw many photography enthusiasts around the world.
And it’s not all about loading a roll, shooting, and developing because Lomography offers a world of experiments to tweak and seek. That’s why in this edition of TeamManila Tips, we’ve compiled the simplest but most amazing seven Lomography tricks you should try. Come on, grab your Lomography camera and check on our list below!
1. Shoot Twice
Double exposure has always been known to Lomography and this trick makes the craft extra exciting. After all, who wouldn’t want two different images in one photograph? Sounds good to me.
2. Look Up
The sky, the trees, the buildings, the sun; there are so many splendid things above land and they sure are worth the negative. Make fun of angles and light while capturing that sight.
3. Blur is Okay
Not all images need to be sharp. Create art by defocusing your subject or by shooting then shaking your camera right after. It’s a neat experiment to find out.
4. Go Close
Capture subjects at the closest even without the use of a fancy macro lens. It might appear abstract, blurry or even funny afterwards so better give it a try.
5. Make Use of Light
Light leaks, rays of sunlight, or unusual sources of brightness are always good elements to a film photograph. Remember, a good image always has good lighting whether it’s unexposed or overexposed.
6. Use Filters
Nope, were not talking about Instagram filters here. Experiment with color gels or random textures by placing them in front of your film camera’s lens for a surprise to see – now that’s a real filter!
7. Expired is Good
Don’t be afraid to use expired film because there’s always a revelation in that old film roll. Grains, textures, and psychedelic colors can pop-up with expired negatives.
